The Assistant General Manager (AGM) is primarily responsible for oversight of their division’s sales team with supplemental oversight over the entire division’s operations. Duties include, but are not limited to, managing the day-to-day of the sales team (inside and outside sales), working with the Vice President, General Manager (VP/GM) on critical division and organizational initiatives (market research, equipment business plans, time studies, rollout of new ERP system, etc), establishing pricing guidelines, and assisting with the coordination between sales and operations as it relates to order flow, product availability, lead times, etc. The role will also be involved with purchasing and material procurement, and working with suppliers such as mills on obtaining premiere pricing on new and replacement material. The AGM will also serve as the interim General Manager when the VP/GM is away or unavailable.

  • Ensure that quality standards are met; champion quality ownership of work center.
  • Enforce all company rules, policies, and procedures; communicate issues with division leadership and/or Corporate.
  • Oversee and organize the inside sales effort with the goal of increasing profitable sales.
  • In partnership with the VP/GM, manage over sales activities to drive objectives around premiere pricing, target gross profit margins, and customer satisfaction.
  • Train and perform employee corrective actions to reduce errors.
  • Assists the sales team with any questions regarding assigned projects, customer quoting, determining product/material availability, and assisting with identifying lead times.
  • Handle the scheduling of inside sales team time off requests while maintaining sufficient resources to maintain workload.
  • Develop strategic sales plans to responsibly grow profitable sales.
  • Develop a climate in which collaboration is encouraged.
  • Be a student of the market to better advise the sales team on pricing.
  • Be the liaison between the operations and sales teams.
  • Work with the operations group on procedural processes and paperwork flow to improve communication and efficiencies.
  • Collaborate with the various departments and local/Corporate leadership to promote a dynamic “team” environment.
  • Train and evaluate new sales staff.
  • Handle issues, conflicts, problems with the operations group as it pertains to customer service.
  • Work with the VP/GM on large bids/quotes and contracts/blankets.
  • Guide and monitor sales team in achieving goals & implementing new initiatives; resolve any issues that may arise.
  • Communicate with ASA sister divisions to assist in providing cost/availability of general inventory to support their customers, inquiries, and orders.
  • Serve as a member of the division management strategic planning committee – identifying areas of improvement, develop action strategies to address, and assisting in the implementation of such resolution plans.
  • Assisting the VP/GM with division oversight, leadership, decision making, etc.
  • Serve as interim GM when VP/GM is unavailable to do so.
  • Perform any other tasks or duties as assigned by the division and/or corporate management team.

A Bachelor’s Degree in a business centric discipline is highly preferred. Experience and Certifications

5 - 7 years of Inside Sales experience.

3 - 5 years of prior management and/or leadership experience is preferable.

Outside sales experience is a plus.

Proficiency with software systems including MS Office, database management, and other business-related systems.

Experience working in a distribution or manufacturing organization preferred.
